Morning song

Blanket of Clouds

Where your blanket of clouds meets the sunrise,

I see my dreams, a distant place

where peace fills my restless soul,

where I am whole again, I’m safe

The demons can no longer haunt me,

I’m home, I’ve been set free

Where your blanket of clouds meets the sunrise,

I glimpse a piece of all that might be.

Osprey

I had so much fun watching this Osprey fish the other day, I felt like putting the experience and my silly thoughts about the flight into a poem… 🙂 Just for fun…

In my dreams, I can fly.
I soar high above the sky.
With outstretched wings like an Osprey
I glide from seashore to the country.
Taking in the world from above
My heart swells with gratitude and love.
Cool air refreshes me, filling me with energy
Life is anew at last, all from the view of the Osprey.
I swoop down and back up as my imagination runs wild
This playground in the sky makes me feel like a child.
Far from the dreams of my youth I have drifted
But cruising with the Osprey, my spirits are lifted.
“Perhaps I will chase them again” the thought becomes clear.
Though it’s been long since I believed in them, they were dreams that I held dear.
As I coast higher and higher and into the clouds,
I can see them in front of me, and I abandon my doubts.
The flight comes to a close as my feet touch the shore.
But I’m filled with strength, zest for life, and a longing for more.
The voice that says ‘What if?’ and ‘Why not?’ I will no longer deny.
Because though it may just be a child’s dream, I believe I can fly.

Ain’t No Sunshine…

PlumeriaPlumeriaPlumeria

I was beginning to think the sun would never shine again in the Sunshine State.  It has been raining for weeks!  Literally, every time I walk my dog, Bill Withers, “Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone”  plays over and over in my head.  I know the song has NOTHING to do with the rain, but I can’t help how my mind works.  Gloomy, cloudy, rainy weather is upon us, and as I walk my dog through the sunless streets, a classic tune accompanies each step, somehow making me smile through the cloud cover.  I love that song.

My local meteorologist has a keen sense of humor, at least that’s what I’m hoping it is, because he has promised that the rain will continue…until…OCTOBER 15th!!  Hello, Sunshine State, what is your problem?

Well, today I was singing my tune, walking my dog, when suddenly the clouds parted… Just when I thought I would lose my mind from the cloudy skies, the sun graced us with some rays.  I wanted to capture the sun shining on the plumeria blooms in my yard…just in case my dear, local weatherman is accurately predicting the summer forecast.  If it is going to rain, rain, and rain some more, hopefully, this glimpse of the sun and the photos of the plumeria basking in the rays will hold me over.  😉  (And one of my favorite songs, of course…)  Enjoy! 🙂

Evening Sky

Just before sunset on the Sanibel Causeway

I love to look at the changing colors in the sky as the day draws to an end.  We stopped here the other night to admire the ocean…and the sky.  Our girls entertained us with their fantasies…

“I wish I could jump from one puffy cloud to the other, Mom!” said my eldest.

To which I obviously replied, “I wish I could, too!”  🙂
